Ok we've finally uploaded the Warcraft III Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne cd images to a filehost. You can now be playing Warcraft 3 on bnet starting with absolutely nothing, only by visiting.

This problem came up when I tried to open RAR Expander v0.8.4 dmg file, which is dated back to 2006.

Description

When I double clicked the dmg file, a warning message pops up. It starts with a line of text “The following disk images couldn’t be opened”. There is a table under this line of text. It shows the dmg file name in the Image column and shows “legacy image should be converted” in the Reason column.

Solution

  • BLP0 files are logically limited to at most 512 pixels in either dimension. BLP1 used to have the same dimension limit as BLP0 until Warcraft III The Frozen Throne patch 1.27b. BLP1 also used to limit the largest useful mipmap level to at most 512 pixels in any dimension until Warcraft III The Frozen Throne patch 1.29.

Open the image in a TGA to BLP converter program, Wc3 Image Extractor II, in my case, and convert into.blp. You have finished preparing the image. Proceed to step 2. Step 2 - Displaying the image in Warcraft Right, you got your image ready. It's time to display it.
  1. Click OK in the warning message window.
  2. Open Disk Utility. Click Convert on the Disk Utility Panel.
  3. Choose the dmg file. Click Convert.
  4. In the Save As text field, type in the name of the converted file. Click Save.
  5. Double click the converted disk image file and it will work.

My guess is that this image file is old and its format is no longer supported by my new OSX. Let’s see this explanation of Wikipedia 'Mac OS Classic legacy disk image format supported by DiskImageMounter under Mac OS X versions 10.3—10.6[1] As of version 10.9, hdiutil can still convert these formats but unable to open or write them.” I still don’t know what format this dmg file is and why Apple stopped supporting it.

    For lion If the ROC file won't open and says it need a conversion. Open disk utility, drag the file to it and click convert. Save it wherever you'd like and it should work just fine after that.
