Jan 18, 2018  In this video I am going to show you how to solve this problem on Mac OS X or macOS which says 'App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer'. This problem generally occurs. Jul 27, 2012  Mac OS X defaults to preventing applications from unidentified developers or sources from being launched. You’ll discover the message in OS X when you try to launch a Mac app that didn’t come from a verified source or from the Mac App Store, and you’ll get an alert dialog that says “App name can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”. Open a Mac app from an unidentified developer. If you try to open an app that isn’t registered with Apple by an identified developer, you get a warning dialog. This doesn’t necessarily mean that something’s wrong with the app. For example, some apps were written before developer ID registration began. Can't open dmg unidentified developer.

Because of the problem I mentioned above - ie, a significant problem with false positives. You don't want to use anti-virus software that's going to tag parts of your system as malicious and potentially (depending on settings) try to delete them!

Virus

Be sure to notice that the testing you're referring to only is a test of one single metric. That ranking does not represent an overall ranking of quality of those anti-virus apps, it's simply a ranking of how well they detected static malware samples during a manual scan. Certainly, a poor score on that test is meaningful - you really don't need to be bothered about any of the other features if the software can't detect malware very well - but a high score says nothing about suitability in other measures, such as stability, performance, feature set, false positive rate, etc.

This is all discussed in detail in the test results, so be sure you're not just looking at the table of data and ignoring everything else.
